I decided on bamboo shoots.
Festivals are all about making yourself stand out.

Important Cultural Property “Hokokusaireizubyobu” by Kano Naizen

This person is completely covered in a bamboo shoot outfit.
Even from our perspective in 2025, we are very intrigued about who they are, where they’re from, and in what era they lived.

In fact, this person is one of the characters appearing in the Hokokusaireizubyobu screen, which depicts a festival held in Kyoto in the early 17th century.
The pictures vividly depict people enjoying themselves in a wide variety of unique costumes, including those in European clothing, those dressed as the Seven Lucky Gods, and those wearing Tengu masks.
The sight of the festival participants dressed in their own unique outfits really conveys the lively atmosphere of the festival, doesn’t it?

What would you wear to such a festival?
